Hon Uda Washi (Hon Uda)

Uda paper for backing of hanging scroll and repair paper of all art painting, which has been made in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture since ancient times, is pure Japanese tissue containing white clay made by crushing limestone in this region. This white clay has effects such as see-through, insect repellent, antioxidant action (burnt prevention), and maintenance of elasticity. In addition, it has a unique finish because it is made with bamboo blinds instead of bamboo blinds. Currently, only papers made in the " Kuzu area" of ​​Yoshino are called Uda paper, Hon Uda, etc., and are distinguished from Uda papers made in other areas. It is the finest Japanese paper used for restoration of cultural properties.

Kintora is made from traditional Yoshino Uda paper using almost the same method as before.  As the backing paper of the hanging scroll, it is highly evaluated by Craftsman  masters of hanging scroll all over Japan, and it is still the most popular paper to use high-end hanging scroll. We are also certified as a “Nara Prefecture Traditional Craftsman”.

Marusho is the one of the finest backing Japanese paper for hanging scroll.  A soft milky white paper that is made by manually removing scratches and discolored parts from the cuticle (inner bark) of mulberry,  using only the really white part as a raw material, and adding white clay to it. It has a wide range of uses such as calligraphy paper and shoji paper, and its soft texture is also used for restoration and repair. In terms of technology, it has been to get the local technology commercialization promotion business “Grand Prize” ((company) Japan wood processing technology Association).
